Center for Union Facts Accepts Sweeney's Call for a Debate

Washington, DC (Vocus) October 17, 2008 -- In response to AFL-CIO President John Sweeney calling for a debate on the Employee Free Choice Act in yesterday's USA TODAY, the Center for Union Facts reissued our intention to debate any labor leader who is willing to step up and defend the undemocratic Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA).

Sweeney's column said, "But the Chamber of Commerce and other corporate 'unions' don't want a real debate on (EFCA)." The Center for Union Facts challenged American Rights at Work, an AFL-CIO front group, to a debate last month. Neither organization responded to the challenge. http://www.newsguide.us/business/management/Center-for-Union-Facts-Challenges-ARAW-to-Debate-EFCA/

"If John Sweeney really wants to stop hiding behind his misleading rhetoric and have a public debate on the mislabeled Employee Free Choice Act, we'll happily join," said Rick Berman, Executive Director of the Center for Union Facts.

Rick Berman formerly served as the Director of Labor Law at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Currently he serves as Executive Director for the Center for Union Facts and Employee Freedom Action Committee which educates the public about labor unions and the EFCA

"Union leadership has consistently ducked any opportunity to have an honest discussion about the effects of the Employee Free Choice Act. It is time for the American public to benefit from a thorough debate on legislation that will have a far-reaching impact on working Americans and our nation's economy."

The Center for Union Facts has agreed to rent a room at the National Press Club and debate Mr. Sweeney any time he is available before November 4th.

The Center for Union Facts is a non-profit organization supported by foundations, businesses, union members, and the general public. For more information or to schedule an interview contact Sarah Kapenstein at 202-463-7106
